Luhololo Hydropower is a small-scale, run-of-river hydroelectric project located in the Njombe Region of Tanzania. The plant forms part of a broader regional initiative aimed at expanding renewable energy capacity and improving rural electrification.
With an installed capacity of approximately 0.9 MW, the project contributes to a wider hydropower development estimated at 2.9 MW. Commissioned in 2019, the plant plays a key role in supplying clean and reliable electricity to surrounding communities.
The project includes the development of approximately 41 km of rural distribution network, significantly enhancing access to electricity for households, schools, and local businesses.
By utilizing sustainable hydropower technology, Luhololo supports Tanzania’s efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, strengthen energy security, and promote long-term environmental sustainability.
