Michenga Dispensary Solar System

The Michenga Dispensary Solar System is a small-scale solar energy project installed at Michenga Dispensary in Ifakara, Tanzania. The project was developed to improve access to reliable electricity for essential healthcare services and support the wellbeing of the surrounding rural community.

With a solar generation capacity of approximately 3 kWp and 4 kWh of battery storage, the system provides stable and sustainable power to the dispensary, enabling healthcare services to operate more efficiently both day and night.

Funded by Toni and Hermina Fischer, the project has significantly improved healthcare access for nearly 10,000 people living in Michenga village. The availability of electricity has been especially important for maternal healthcare, allowing women to safely give birth during nighttime hours and improving emergency medical support.

At the time of installation, the dispensary became the first building in the village to receive electricity, marking an important milestone in local community development and rural energy access.
